"Well, that was terrifying..."

That was the subject line of a Facebook entry I made in 2014, when I used to commute from Evanston to Detroit every week, leaving Detroit on Friday to spend time with the family, then returning Sunday night. It continued:
Drove in from Chicago to Detroit last night. Checked the Weather Channel several times before I left. All the warnings were about a "chill." Nothing about a blizzard which is what I encountered almost as soon as I got on I94. Left at 7:30 pm, got here at 3:30 am. White-outs for several long stretches. At one point I gave up and pulled into a place called Albion because I noticed a lodging sign. Only I couldn't find the lodging once I had pulled off. I could barely see 10 feet in front of me. Finally crawled into a gas station and walked in. The young woman at the counter looked at me cross-eyed. I wondered if I had something on my face. Then I realized she actually was cross-eyed. I asked about lodging. "No, you don't want to stay in the place in this town."
My gut reaction was, "Seriously? How does she know I'm a prima donna?" But then she explained, "They've got bedbugs."
So I reluctantly got back on the freeway, found a convoy of trucks and made it back to my apartment. Where I crawled into bed, thinking of bedbugs.
Ah, but at least I got a song out of it. "Rumble Strip."
